sadly passed away today, the heat was just too much for her, and she was in really good nick (slightly plump). that is the danger with pekins and heat, and the hot weather coming early was just much combined with the urge to lay an egg. :doh :aaargh: :upset:

here is a picture of her with mr blue where they came second in a pairs class at the wa pekin bantam club annual show

So sorry Calad :-( , this heat is just no good for well conditioned birds . .... and she looked to be a beautiful pekin.
My pekin rooster, Nero , is gurgley after the weekend heat ...its just not good for them.

Chickens' passing is always sad, we get so attached to them.
I lost one last week, she was so personable.
The heat got my mind wandering to the thought of buying an old secondhand wall mounted aircon for the chook pen!
$50 + a caravan power lead & a few pieces of pine to make a quick frame & whalla, chookie aircon! :D
