I left my chooks free ranging in my back yard while I ducked down the post office. Gone five minutes, max..

The next door neighbours pug dog escaped and made a bee line for my back yard.

My back yard gate was closed but I didn't close the garage door, the dog went through the garage and into the back yard through my garage side door which must have blown open when I opened the garage door to get the car out.

Anyway, when I got home I found the pug dog sitting in the middle of my lawn with a chook lying prone in front of it. Janet and Jacko, the Wellsummers were making a hell of a noise in the pen they had now retreated to. The pugs mouth was covered in feathers. By this time I could hear the young girl next door walking up the driveway calling for the dog.

I picked up the dog, the chook still hadn't moved, I feared the worst and I called out to the girl not to come in. I took the dog to her, still frothing with feathers.

When I went back to check on my poor chook, she was up and walking around, shaken, but alive. I picked her up and checked her for puncture wounds but she was fine.

I'm not sure if it was a case of good timing, or whether the pug hadn't intended to eat the chook or just play with it.

Either way, that pug will no longer be getting my old roast bones on baked dinner night.

Wow that's one lucky chooky. Glad you made it home in time.

Oh no! I hope she's alright and recovers from the shock.

I trust the owner was suitably apologetic.
