Our house, yard and chook house are in the process of what feels like a never ending renovation. The whole setup is much less than ideal. The chooks HAD access to under the house and started laying there. Better yet, two went broody under there so I couldn't block it off until they both came out at the same time. They never did come out together until they had finished sitting and hatched their babies. By then there were dozens of eggs under there that I couldn't get to. Thankfully we have been able to block off access, much to the girls (very vocal) displeasure.

Now, every so often, an egg will explode and stink. The flies and the smell from under the house are truly horrific. I'm hoping they will all "pop" and be I'll be done with this situation soon.

Can anyone tell me how long it should take for this nightmare to end? I'm hoping it won't go on all summer ohjeez

Best of luck with that one  sorry I have no useful suggestions. If you cannot get to them then they will have to stay there until they are all gone.

Fortunately, it seems to have come to a natural end. No more chooks under the house. Ever.

I was wrong. Another one just exploded.

Does anyone know how long it should take before they are all finished? The house is so low that I have no hope of getting to them.

Do you have a floorboard you could pull up to get access? Would a rake or anything reach?

No way to know how long it will take without knowing how many eggs are under there!

I did think of the floorboard solution. Timing is the pits because we laid the new carpet just a few months earlier. It is still an option.

I raked out the ones I could reach before blocking off access but there are clearly more in further that I can't even see. When they pop it sounds like a firecracker or something.

Although I have no idea how many are there as I can't see them, it is about 3 months since the last time a chook got under the house.

Ha,ha! It is kinda funny I guess... In a laugh or cry kind of way
