Until recently I've been keeping pekin bantams, which although very pretty and placid haven't been much good at foraging. (Ahem, LAZY!)
I recently got some farm barnevelder eggs and hatched them out with broody pekin as mama.
Well! They're only 3 weeks old and they are like little velociraptors or something! They're growing extremely quickly, healthy as anything, are very independent and active, super good eaters, not fussy at all.
They eat all the fruit, veg etc I give them as treats, catch their own bugs, grasshoppers etc, and today they demolished a live 20cm long legless lizard. If they're doing that before they're a month old I'm gonna have to hide the guinea pigs soon I think.
(I'm not condoning things eating legless lizards by the way.)
Anyway, all in all I'm impressed with the breed, looking forward to seeing them develop into adults.
