It would be interesting and perhaps helpful to share how we found our chickens. I'm struggling to find anything on the backyard poultry noticeboard in QLD. If anyone can recommend any other online avenues for buying chickens that would be great!
When I lived in SA I found all my girls on the backyard poultry noticeboard, on 10 different occasions. My neighbours chicken also moved in with me on her own accord. Now that I'm in Brisbane I've found the search for heritage breeds to be quite a lengthy quest. Right now my flock consists of only 2 ladies. They're very happy together but I would like 2 more girls so they can have more company and I can have more eggs
1 girl is apparently a light Sussex bantam and I spontaneously purchased her from Capalaba produce store because she won me over with her personality- she's so social and comfortable around people, probably because she's had a great deal of interaction at a busy store. I'm so happy with her.
My second girl is a pretty little Plymouth rock bantam from a heritage breed farm. So far she is the most nervous Plymouth rock I've ever met. I've had at least 15... I hope with time and lots of treats she'll settle in to her new life here.
Anyway I would love to hear how you built your flock.
