Post subject:  Quiet rooster?

Hi,

I would like to get a bantam rooster.... are there any you can keep in the suburbs and not alert the neighbours? Like a quiet rooster not too loud? :aaah!

I know people cage the roosters in a box at night and release in the morning I can't do that due to hours I work.

Any ideas or suggestions please.

:th

Hi impressionable,

To be totally honest with you, it is not worth the hassle of keeping a rooster in subrubia be that a bantam or any kind for that matter, because ALL roosters crow and unless you have some very good neighbours all around you that don't mind roosters crowing then you might just get away with it that is until one moves away and someone else moves in.

If you have had neighbours that are long timers and not leaving in a hurry could ask them beforehand, my Wyandotte bantam roos have been the quietest, one a mate has is weird as barely audible,a one off but.he should breed from.him separate as see if son's are the same.

mycoola - probably better to put him back over his daughters and test his grandsons - would be an interesting project.

Ive got an Oxford Old English the crows only about 3 times a year.
I bred him back to a daughter. 2 sons that resemble him the most i kept. One started crowing a little @ 12 months, which is late. The second one hasn't crowed yet.
Im going to breed the original cock back to a grand daughter this year, and the second son (if he stays quite) back to an aunt to see what happens.
I think you can just about breed anything into or out of a chicken, but the CROWING would have to be the hardest if at all possible. :^
