I breed only Welsummers and I am endeavouring to breed Welsummers which lay DARK brown eggs. I have been quite disappointed by the lack of colour when I have purchased eggs which were described as @dark brown@. I am currently breeding a line of Welsummers crossed with Wheaton Marans and I have some 3/4 Welsummers which have been hatched out of dark eggs maybe 4-5.

I am trying to source dark brown eggs

Hi, how are you going with your Welsummers after crossing with the Marans?
I'm lucky enough to have Welsummers laying some dark brown eggs now after 6 yrs of breeding. I recently purchased some 3/4 Avgen pullets and will be interested to see how they turn out.
Cheers Andrew

tink.kilkee - interesting project, it was the Welsummer/Marans crossing that was blamed on the decline in Marans eggs in days gone by! Going full circle!
