They are various fungal elements and their sporangia (flowers) that have grown after the poos were dropped due to the temperature and the humidity. They may have been in the bowel but its of no consequence medically. Most likely airbourne fungi though.

Most of the early decomposition of vegetable matter from a compost heap is done by macro and micro fungi. Bacteria do take over a some point but the bacteria need smale bite sized bits - the result is humus.

This is what it looked like when I break it open


The casing looked and feel like egg shell (a bit chalky).. but obviously not an egg... the filling are definitely poo.. got the strong anomia (spelling) smell to it after I break it open, but definitely not smelly.. and definitely not your average poo either..

Photo was taken this morning. It's been 12 days since chickens were wormed (first round) and not due for another dose until 18.04.10. Have posted a thread in the GSMC already, but the photo was good enough to be put in here...

My OH has just been teasing me for looking at pics of chook poo, but after finding a strange looking thing in a poo today, I've realised that I'm off to buy some wormer tomorrow for my girls. ewwwwwww!

Should I be worried about this one?

I get a few like those quite often and as far as I know (touch wood) my girls are happy and healthy.
I actually only notice them when I let the chooks out to free range and they poop on the concrete, other times I think those poos blend into the mulch of their run.

Thanks Meredith, I think it was Tandoori's as she was nearest at the time, she has just laid her 3rd egg today and recently changed diet, unfortunately not progressively as I didn't think to get some food from their original home.

Bubbly white fluid accompanying this one had soaked into paver by the time I got the camera. Produced by an apparently but not definitively egg bound hen.

Little red/orange coloured worms in poo, taken day of worming. They were quite fragile, and about as thin as a strand of chicken wire. Possible a couple of cm's long (hard to tell as they broke apart easily when poking at them with a stick).

Thanks for this - I'm sure I'll be needing this thread sometime in the future! Fancy so much to learn about chook poo!!
