Hi,

Recently, I had a chicken come to my flock to stay for a while ( ) before she went on to her next home. But, before she left she was scratching (she had feather mites) and then at her tail. Just above the tail, she had this weird lump that stuck up in the air like a twig. I checked my other Isa's and they have them to. Why have I not noticed this before, and is it normal? I can post a pic if it helps.

Thanks,
Egg Egg :P

Yes it's normal, its called the "Bursa frabricus" and its found on all poultry. Its an oil gland that they use when they preen themselves. You can see it on roast chickens if you look at the parson's nose.
