Marek's Vaccine - we have run out so here's what we've found out about prices.

www.treidlia.com.au marek's vaccine - $33 overnight freight delivery, then it's $32 for every 125 dose batch. Or we can get 8x125's for $190 which is a saving of $50 to get that much. So for us we could pay $190 for the 1000 dose in 8 smaller lots plus $33 for freight and it gets delivered to our door. Both vaccine and diluent to be stored in the fridge. We asked for info about the vaccine itself but didn't get a reply on that.

For comparison - DHA Rural (Toowoomba) $165 for 1000 (all in one) requiring pickup so a drive for us. That would be four hours in the car plus $30 for petrol. So it's still a little bit cheaper - we'd estimate $30 saving, however the vaccine is in one big lot and you need to have the time to get it. HVT. Tablet stored in freezer, diluent stored in fridge.

That sounds much more convenient and time saving and well worth the few dollars extra! It's also great that it can be bought in smaller batches. Do you know how long it will keep in the fridge and did you end up ordering it from Treidlia? What other vaccines are they selling?

We ordered the 8 lots from Treidlia. I don't know how long we can store it but hopefully it will come with label information. It should arrive tomorrow. It is the HVT same as the DHA source.

The package arrived the next day. For the record, this is how it was packed and what it contained.

What's in the little peach coloured viles? I am ordering ours from Treidlia this week as the 125 single packed doses as I will only need 30-40 doses at once - did you find it easy to administer and all instructions made sense? I read through the instructions you posted up and unsure about how to mix the diluent and vaccine together (but I assume will hopefully make more sense when it arrives).

Thanks.

Sterile diluent. You need to add diluent to the vaccine before it can be injected. The live vaccine is usually a freeze dried tablet.

Is it possible to store Mareks vaccine for long periods.

I would never have to immunise 125 chicks in one go. In fact I might not get that many chicks in one season.

How long can I store it for?

Saltwood, I emailed Treidlia yesterday to put my order in and they now no longer split the vaccine into the 125 doses - they have gone back to the 1000 dose lots only (bummer!).

I also asked for the use-by date and the lady I spoke to said the stock they have on hand at the moment expires August 2016 - so at least a yr away which is good - I suppose we just need to hope there's no blackout/power outages in that time.

I'm going to try and find another company that sells it in lesser amount than 1000 and preferably as single doses so will let you know what I find - unless anyone else has any suggestions??

Did they give you a reason why they have stopped doing it? That is a bummer.

No they didnt. They just said since I enquired and had the price list emailed to me back in March there have been some changes.

"In regards to your Mareks vaccine query, there has been some changes since Dessa sent you the price list.

We now currently only sell Mareks vaccine in 1000 doses with the diluents for $187.00 inc gst. The expiry date for this is Aug 2016."

I'll keep looking! But the hatch is due next wkend so hoepfully can source a smaller batch before then and have it arrive in time.

No, once it is made up it needs to be used fairly quickly according to the literature. However, using a sterile spatula, you can divide the tablet into 1/3 or 1/4, and make up separate small batchs (putting the remainder dried tablet/powder in the freezer) and using less diluent to give the same dilution. The company will only guarantee the vaccine if used all at once, but a lot of breeders I know say they have success doing it this way.

How do you know that Toll stored it in the fridge overnight?? And what happens to the viability of the vaccine if it was not refrigerated as per directions??
