Hi, I'm looking after my neighbours hens this weekend and noticed one of the hens not looking healthy. it appears her bottom area is almost on the ground. Her comb is partly blackend and she can't walk well as the back is looking very heavy. This is the same chook I noticed a few months ago when I was helping my neighbour worm her chooks. Then she appeared to have the same thing but not as prominent, but also noticed what looked like white kind of blisters or sores around her beak. I said to my neighbour then she doesn't look well, however she assured me a week or so later she was looking good, was eating and laying. Wondering if anyone may shed some light on what may be wrong with her.
Thank you Andrea

Sounds like water belly (Ascites). Feel underneath her. Is she 'squishy'? If it is it will affect her heart and circulation and could account for the black comb.
The other option is that she is egg bound.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I was thinking egg bound too. Unfortunately I cannot pick her up due to a bad back but the owners will be home today and will mention that too them. They are not the sort of people who will help their chooks if they get "sick".
