Your Location- country, state (different areas/climates have different problems)
ANSWER: nsw

What is wrong? What symptoms have you noted? - As much detail as possible please.
ANSWER: she has been limping slightly for about 6mths now but is fairly active.she also has gotten blood red comb but has never laid an egg.she is a bit quieter and slower than the others but her weight isnt too bad although shes always been on the light side.

What are you feeding? - Please list everything you're feeding to your birds, including type of basic feed, free ranging, scraps, extras, etc. If possible give approximate percentages.
ANSWER: laucke mills 17 crumbles and lately barastoc pellets. mashes once a week of anything really,tinned anchovies,eggs,clover pellets,apple cider vinegar,some oats,dried mealworms and fresh grass clippings once a week also the odd handful of silverbeet and chicory,handful of vella scratch mix 3 times a week.


Full droppings description.- colour, consistency, frequency, offensive smell.
ANSWER: normal but smaller in size

Respiratory Changes?- eg. breathing sounds, discharge, laboured breathing, facial swelling
ANSWER: normal

Digestive Changes?- eg. eating, drinking, crop filling & emptying
ANSWER: eats but not a lot. clean butt, no diahorrea

Condition Changes?- eg. Weight, comb/wattle colour, skin, feathering
ANSWER: wattles go blood red regularily.large to look at but fairly light in weight.checked breast bone yesterday and its not sharp at all.quite fleshy covering.

Behavioural Changes?- inc. socialising, laying, crowing, broodiness
ANSWER: has never laid an egg or even looked remotely like it.never been broody.had her since 6 weeks old.

Agility Changes? - eg. any lameness, favouring, energy levels
ANSWER: very slight lameness in one leg,walking looks a bit uncomfortable.checked under pads for any cut or infection but couldnt see any.doesnt seem to be swollen.i did a grab test on her feet and she can hold on so no paralysis.

Describe your usual worming routine and products. [If none, say so and skip the next 3 worming questions.] Do you have a cycle that you use eg. every 3 months, or every six months?
ANSWER: yes every 6mths or earlier with wormout tablets

1. When was the bird last wormed??- approximate date.
ANSWER: 2 mths ago roughly

2. What product was used to worm the bird, and how was it given? ? eg. in the drinking water, on the skin, by injection?
ANSWER: wormout tablets

3. Was a follow up dose given? (eg. 10-14 days later)
ANSWER: no

Any other recent medications?- antibiotics, coccidiosis meds, herbal remedies, etc
ANSWER: no

Other changes? – additions to the flock, diet, housing, extreme weather
ANSWER: no

Photos? – any relevant photos are very helpful

it could simply be a case of her maturing at the wrong time of year. if a pullet is not mature enough to lay eggs and reaches that maturity once it is winter, they often do not start to lay until spring.(ie some mature by autumn and lay).

iti s a good sign that she has red comb and wattles.

on the negative side, araucanas can be tricky to sex, are you sure she is a she?

hi caladenia,
thanks for reply.hoping youre right and she lays anytime,yes its definately a hen.ive lost faith in avian vets,ive taken a few to 2 different vets and they either try to talk me out of further investigation due to cost or just dont seem to know whats wrong. :dontknow
