I have a black australorp bantam chicken that has lately been displaying rooster like activities like trying to mount one of my other girls. She/he used to be my best layer, but hasn't produced any eggs for months. The other poor chicken that she picks on now has a big wound behind her neck and now subsequently gets picked on by the other girls (5 in total, all bantams). I tried putting the victim in the sinbin to keep her out of trouble and give her time to heal, but thought that that was unfair, so I have now isolated the black one in the sin bin to give the other girls a break from her. I have observed her trying to mount the others but it's this one poor girl who suffers the brunt. She is one of 3 pekins, my oldest girl is Columbian wyandotte bantam, now aged 10.
Have I done the right thing? I could isolate the victim in a bird aviary with one lone budgie until she heals up and would be safe from the others.
Thankyou for any help or suggestions.
