I would be interested in trying this - however my hens are just fed on layer pellets and scratch mix...

I only have 4 hens and I'm a newbie chook owner!

How would I introduce the spices?

Hi Juergen and thanks for that.

Good point about keeping the blend dry. I only mix small batches at a time and this is done in the kitchen, so far no dampness problems.

Good to know that it can be fed to ducks as well. :thanks:

I am getting some good feedback from people who have already bought the mix - I have sold nearly 3/4 kg so far.

Hi SydneyChick and welcome to the world of chooks!!

Do you ever wet the dry pellets with warm water and let them soak and swell? You can use that as a mash for the chooks in the morning to warm them up and add the mix to that. Or mix some with molasses and mix through the scratch mix? Do you ever give them kitchen scraps? Again it could be mixed in with those.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

You could try buying the spices in their seed form (granulated garlic, ginger slices, mustard seeds, etc) and mix those in with the scratch mix - a bit harder to regulate the amount that each chook gets though.

Good luck working it out.

Cheers.

Alina.

Hello again.

I will be at the Kyneton auction this coming Sunday with bags of this spice mix available for $3.50 each (no postage!). I will have a sample there so you can see it/try it before you buy. I only have 25 bags available, so if you would like some, please let me know and I will put some aside for you (with your name on it) for collection from Kyneton.

This is a great chance to pick some up and see if it helps your chooks get through this miserable weather!

After reading all the benefits of this spice mix, I have actually started taking it myself!! (Well, fenugreek capsules for a start, and I'm adding the blend to a curry we are having tonight!) Can't let the chooks have all the goodies to themselves!

See you at the auction.

Alina.

Hi Ron and thank you for your payment.

I will be posting your spices to you today (Tuesday).

I have already run out of my blend and have had to order another bulk lot!! So it looks like I will be doing this for a bit longer yet. How long depends on how it goes at the Kyneton auction and if there is any follow up interest.

This was really only intended to let people try the blend without laying out too much capital - I thought once everyone had tried it they would buy in bulk themselves (about $50 an order)

Cheers.

Alina.
