There is an article in the latest edition of Australasian Poultry about an automatically opening solar-powered door made by Wagner's (in Coldstream Victoria) Hen Safe Doors. See weblink:
http://www.wagnerspoultry.com.au/chicken_coop_doors.htm
Has anyone had any experience with one?

I have sent an email to Wagner's enquiring about them. No response yet.

I'd be interested in hearing more when they get back to you. If there is enough interest from others and the price is right maybe we could do a group deal?

Hello everyone,

I did email Steve and this was his reply to the Wagners Safe Doors :

The price for the door is $240 for the complete kit with solar panel and back up battery. Postage to 3032 is $8.65. You can see the product at http://www.hensafedoors.com

Interesting. The UK equivalent, or what seems to be the equivalent, MINUS the door and including postage comes to over $230AUD. http://www.hensafe.net/buy-one-now.html

But, of course this is Aussie-made, or seems to be.

Hi Everyone,

It is great to see some interest in our product....

If you have any questions please let us know. We do offer a deal of buy 5 or more and get a 10% discount of the door price, or but 10 and get one free. Please note however you will still need to pay for postage at the normal rate. If you require a guideline on postage price, head to http://www.hensafedoors.com click on the FAQ button and follow the links. This is a guide only. Upon confirmation of an order we will calculate the postage accurately.

Hope this helps and we look forward to your questions

Hi there - thought I would let you all know that HenSafe in the UK is quite different to your Aussie company! We've sold quite a few Down Under too. The link in the original message is wrong though, the correct link is: http://www.hensafe.net/-buy-one-now.html
Lots more on our website!

Many thanks all,
Julie Norman

I have one of these in the new chook mansion.
After losing my flock to a fox, I was willing to fork out the $$ to know the new birds will be safe.

It's installed, but we haven't hooked up the solar panel yet as the run is getting some attention and my remaining lonely hen is about to have chicks.
