I needed to clean out coop that contained a mumma hen and 4 week old chicks as it was getting very stinky.

Mummahen and one chick got out :bolt: and I have been unable to get them back in.

I have left the door open for them to hopefully go back.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

If they don't hop in for bed, then its nothing a net wont fix! :D If you don't have one, maybe get a bit creative with a pillowcase, coat hanger and broom? or something along those lines.

Oh, probably not a good idea to leave the door open on the other chicks all night, or Mr Fox may pay a visit.

She should go back to the insistant peeping from the other chicks or if she is very stubborn she will go back at night when its time for bed especially if she has been in the cage for awhile with the chicks. I recently tried to move some of my chicks which are ready for the "big pen" out of a transition pen I have that I wanted for my turkeys, the only problem is they get out of the big pen and come back to the transition pen at night insisting to be put back in their "home" :?
