Hi all,

It's all lighting up in my pens at the moment.

Sussexes and Australorps are just about in full swing, and we're getting nice sized eggs.

One of the Indian Game hens started laying strongly (an egg every second day, even daily), and out of the first eight she layed, five have candled fertile. I also have another five in, yet to be candled.

She is penned with a mate, and I have seen them mate successfully several times.

Now she has just stopped, and hasn't layed for a week.

Should I just wait for her to take a breather, and she'll start up again? Or should I take her out and put another young pullet who has started laying in with this virile male?

I have plenty of Indians to choose from this year, and a lot of the girls are starting to moan and fidget.

As I have six viable males, I was thinking of giving them all 2 girls each for a month at a time, then rotating their harems once a month so as to mix it up a bit.

All the soft feathers seem to just keep laying once they start, with the odd day off, until they just stop for their moult.

The Indians seem a bit more fickle about their laying patterns.

Can anybody help with this specific question?

I'm really keen to get the maximum results out of my Indians. The soft feathers seem much more capable when it comes to breeding.
