I had a broody leave the nest today and has not returned. She came off at about 7:30am. I am not sure if she went back at all, but I was watching her from about 10am and she showed now interest in the nest for the rest of the day. I took the eggs and left a dummy egg at about 3pm- its almost 6 and shes still not gone back to the nest, so i'd say that is it. If the eggs were not kept warm for that period of time do they have any chance? They are due to hatch on friday. They are in the incubator now.

They still have a fair chance of hatching. They would have cooled down a bit, but some of them may have survived. They may hatch a little late.

Just out of curiosity - does the broody hen have lice? It may be worth checking her over as it's a common cause for them losing interest like that.

i was having problems with lice and mites when she dissapeared (it took me a few days into the brood to find her). When i did find her i moxidectin and dusted her, but it is possible she was reinfected.
