I'm looking at getting 4 day old chicks (RIR or Plymouth Rock) and now that i'm not in Darwin I actually need to think about a heat source for their broody box. Are desk lamps still good enough?

I use a little clip on one for small batches of ducklings. They have a 50 watt halogen globe in them- I have to set it fairly low- but when there is only a few babies they can easily all sit in the warmth together. It doesnt do anything for the other end of the brooder though.
