Hi all,

I am in the process of incubating some turkey eggs, in fact 10 of the 12 eggs are pipped and hatching.
Any hints as to raising these little guys as this is a 1st for me.

cheers

Good luck with the hatch! I'd love some turkeys one day!

Treat them as silly chickens they supposedly struggle to work out how feeder and waters work. I put mine in with some day old chicks and they were fine.

Turkey starter has 28% protein but I have not used it.

I have only raised one batch of turkeys so I am not an expert.

they seem to have different personality’s to chickens.

It depends on the turkey strain if its worth feeding them higher analysis feeds. Many of the so called 'heritage' types are very small framed with small growth potential, so there's no advantage feeding them any of the higher priced feed. However, well-bred heritage types and the commercial meat birds do benefit.
