Thanks NellyG and 70%Cocoa. Getting close now. Hopefully have the chooks in there this weekend. They will have a shock not having free roam over 5 acres all day long [emoji3]

Managed to finish putting the netting over the run yesterday and installed the door today. I had an old fly wire door laying around that does the job nicely. Also finished fox proofing with yet more rocks.

Managed to coax the girls in this afternoon with a few black soldier fly larvae. They were very put out when I shut the gate behind them. Also they were desperate to get out at dusk to head back to their other temporary coop. I had to catch them and put them on the new perch and show them where to go.

Stage one completed.

Old fly screen door put to good use

Glad to finally have it completed. The next stage will be to build the permanent coop with 3 bays and complete the other two runs

Thanks redial. Yes the sand makes things easy for digging until you hit the rock[emoji20]

Started stage two of the coop yesterday. This will be the second of three runs which will be parallel to each other.

Hoping to get it finished in the next 2 days as I'm picking up 5 new australorp pullets from my Aunty on Saturday

Some more progress today. Got all the frame in place and started putting up the netting. Have to head into Busselton tomorrow (60km away) to pick up some more rabbit netting. Also going to look for some old fly screen doors at the salvage yard.

Finished the second run today. Put up all of the netting, built a door and dug a trench and filled with rocks around the perimeter. Hope the girls appreciate all this effort!

I picked up 5 new Australorp girls yesterday from Narrogin. They are a bit flighty but slowly settling in.

Our first hatch today in the new coop. Out of a dozen eggs we have 6 black australorp, 2 blue australorp and 1 light sussex. Another had pipped but the mum walked away so it's now inside under a heat lamp.

We also inherited this boy. He's a young buff orpington. He is still learning the ropes and the girls haven't really warmed to him yetImage
