I cant believe how much hotter this summer is getting!! this is the first year that my plants aren't coping, the grass is really scorched and with this fri, sat, sun, forecast to be 44,45,44  I am very worried about my chooks and aviary birds,we do use misters but the temps are getting so ridiculous now in Penrith we will seriously look at moving out of here to a better climate, if there is such a thing.anyone recommend their area weather wise ? cheers.

Great here in Albany (WA). I think we have had three days over 30 all summer (and they weren't far over!). A very cool year here.

38' at 6 o'clock this evening. Had sprinklers going round the pens most of the day. Hopefully it was cool enough at ground level that the mussie is not sitting on roasted eggs - and soon we will be whinging about the cold and I will be watching the forecast for frost : :aaargh:

Gawd am I jealous.......we have had 5 days of 40+ ( peaking at 47.7) and boy are my chooks feeling it..........I am now at the stage that it is getting too muggy down the fowl houses...........and I have lost 3 hens and 2 chickens. The next step will be to install A/C in the fowl houses if electricity wasn't soooooooooo expensive and unreliable in SA. It is unreal here, never seen humidity like it in this area and I have lived here all my life (yep accourding to my daughter and grand daughter I'm an' Ol' bugga)

i feel for you all with your extremes, just to help you people in the really hot,in case you have never heard of it theres a product called ' coolchick' its a water soluble powder and it rehydrates chooks on those terrible days, ive been using it lately and it does seem to make a difference to the way theyre handling the heat.i only use it on days over 36.

Yes the heat is terrible this summer, haven't seen it like this since the seventies :aaargh: , the thermostat controled mist system on the avairies is getting a severe workout, i let the chooks free fange when its this hot, they congregate next to one avairy bank that has shade and mist system, some spray reachs out to about 1.5 m from the avairy. Looking out the window and its chockablock with chooks in this area at the moment., dont blame them. Too bloody hot to tinker in the garage, at work have no choise. On thursday had to work on a conveyor near the roof above the cement mill, even in winter its 55 degrees up there, it was very unpleasant in deed must been near 70 degrees there.

Make puddles for your chickens.
