Hi all,
I have 9 one month old chicks, various heritage breeds, and i have been feeding them a medicated chick starter. I am wondering if there is anything else i need to give them i.e grit; are there any "treats" i can give them at this age, and if switching to a grower feed at 6 weeks is ok?
Thanks!

Hi Nicky and welcome to BYP.

What you are feeding your chicks is perfect for age and stage. Switch to Grower at about 6 -8 weeks (when ever you run out of starter). The basic commercial feed should make up most of their diet but you can introduce them to a small quantity of 'treats' - late afternoon, after they have had access to their 'proper' food most of the day. Fruit, veges, meal worms and grain are all suitable. They don't need shell grit until they are ready to lay and hard grit is really only necessary on a grain diet when there is no access to small stones etc (for grinding)
