What is everyone's recommended chook food for healthy chickens and maximum egg production?
I've been using Red Hen 17 to date but finding it difficult to get as our local supplier is unreliable.
Are there any other foods out there that are better or just as good that I can see if I can source?

Chook food manufacturers basically all use the same premix to supply vitamins and minerals. To that they add shell grit, salt, protein meal and grains to complete the ration. So in a nutritional sense they only vary in protein content & that's on the label.

As far as preferences are concerned, you can have whole grain rations, cracked grains, meals, pellets or a blend. I prefer a finely cracked ration as it flows through the auto feeder well and there is minimal waste. I've sometimes used whole grains but I find they pick through for the preferred grains resulting in an unbalanced diet and a lot of waste.

Looking at the grain component of the mix, some people report that their chooks don't like the ones based on sorghum.

Protein meals are generally either Soy or meat meal. Some people prefer eggs from chooks fed Soy rather than meat meal as the egg flavour is said to be better.

Quality of feeds from different manufacturers vary too. I've found I prefer the ones made by Lauke.

Another Lauke customer here although there are other good brands.
My chooks love the 17 and there is no wastage however my observation a couple of seasons ago was that breeding was better on the Show Bird Breeder MP (possibly they got too fat on the 17?)
Lauke marketed aggressively in my local area last year and several produce suppliers either introduced the brand or increased their range.
I suggest that you ring around and locate an alternative source - or give us an idea of your location, maybe someone can recommend another local supplier.

I'm wanting to find somewhere to get laucke in my area. I'm in Goulburn, any recommendations or even online with reasonable postage costs.

Another Laucke Showbird Breeder MP user here. (All year round for the big chooks). We use their Premium Chick starter as well.

Birds also get a handful of grains tossed in the pen late of a day as a scratch around,

Ron

Laucke showbird breeder mictopellets. Healthiest chooks in all of Australia :) But my chooks free-range and nothing beats a free-range diet.
