my chook who is about 5yrs old has been trying to lay an egg but nothing, her tail is down and she dos'nt look right,if I go to pick her up she can still move fast though.What can I do to help her please ?

Are you sure she is egg bound? Generally the squat and waddle is a give away. Sometimes you can feel an egg bulge.
Start by giving her a soak - about 15 minutes in a warm bath. She may struggle at first but will soon relax. Most hens actually seem to enjoy it. Sometimes the warmth and moisture relax things sufficiently for the egg to be passed.Some people follow up with confinement in a crate with additional warmth. I like to allow them to exercise first.
There are more invasive procedures, best done by a vet - hopefully you will avoid them.
