I have read many disturbing post by a few silly people on the forums who feed their laying birds the wrong stuff which will eventually will make them selves or other people very sick from eating their eggs. k.

Drugs such as D.O.T and others are added to the following feeds to aid your chick health .

There are a few of you never read the feed bags of medicated feeds that they use.
On all medicated grower feed and poultry starter feed it clearly states NO TO FEED TO LAYING HENS . I do not mean mother hens with chicks but the hens you eat the egg from. There are medication in these feeds not suitable for people to consume.

The same applies to those who use budgie antibiotic on their fowls but that is another post for another day.

Food for thought.
Note: I have been a bred of both pure bred and commercial poultry for over 40 years as well as being a poultry judge, writer of many poultry articals for a national poultry publication.
I want all of us to enjoy our birds and help stop the loss of poultry products.

thanks Auctioneer2,
I would be grateful if you could give me your opinion of this feed please.
Is it safe for humans to eat eggs or meat from chickens that have consumed this feed?

It is very kind of you to be concerned. I hope you will be able to answer my question.

thanks. :-)

Hi Okaru,

If you read the info on the Vella feed you will note that it calls out a "no withholding period" for meat or egg consumption. In this case it should be OK for laying chooks to eat.

Cheers,
AusHusker
