We had a fox get in to our backyard when our girls were free ranging and lost 3, one of the surviving one's was caught but managed to get away only missing a few tail feathers (Australorp) but hasn't laid an egg since (about 1 month ago) the other surviving chook hasn't missed a beat (Isa Brown) when it comes to laying. So just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it could take her to start laying again and if I should be taking her to a vet?

The combination of stress and a natural break in laying due to seasonal shorter days (light) will affect the laying cycle. More so in Pure Breeds than in the commercial hybrids.
Let her have a break - she will have more laying years ahead of her than the ISA

As a fellow Melbournite I am pretty interested to know what time of day the fox hit your backyard? Also where you are located (though understand it you don't want to share that)

I have always assumed foxes fed at night...we have a great auto closing door on our very secure coop but i do let the flock free range all day as they do not have an enclosed space.

Hi I'm in Lilydale on the edge of the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley, the fox attack was around 7.30pm we just forgot to put them away the change back from Daylight Savings had thrown us, we now have alarms set on both our phones for 5pm my partner is home during the day so he lets them out when he gets up and I've started putting them away when I get home from work about 4.30pm. Be aware that foxes will come during the day as well.
