I think you can forget about anything bird. Their beaks are not made to do that.
I would like to know if anybody has a different experience?

Birds pluck and rip bits off, but not head and neck.

Foxes do that, and I have no doubt, other 4-legged furry things.

Thanks everyone for your input. At the moment the remaining chickens are locked up in their secure area. They will be there until we install electric fencing around their unroofed area which will be in the next couple of days.

Oh my goodness! After putting electric fencing around the perimeter of the coop and putting strapping over the outside areas of the chicken coop to put off birds flying into the open chicken area,( like the wires at the MCG); I found a goshawk INSIDE the coop! The 4 remaining chicken were huddled together in one nesting box. I opened the door of the coop to the paddocks and the hawk flew off. Once again the chickens will have to be in their fully enclosed area which isn’t huge and not go out into the fenced and ‘strapped’ area. I’m at a loss as to what to do next!

Hi mandadeb,
Sorry I said it is not a bird doing the killing. It still seems unlikely that a bird eats a head and neck.
Could you use bird net over the top of a larger area?
If you would post a photo we could perhaps figure something out.
We use bird net to 6m wide and I sew 2 or 3 of them together if they are too narrow.
