Hi all,
I’m new here but have a bit of a quandary.
I have a mixed flock of 6 girls who are about 18 months old. In January I bought 2 new chicks and have been raising them with the intention to add them to the flock at about 20 weeks (which would be in about 4 weeks). Last week, sadly, one of the chicks died so now I only have one to add. She is currently in a pen near the rest of the flock and looks very lonely. My question is, should I get another chook of similar age to her, have them together for a month or so then add them to the rest of the flock together or just put her in tonight and hope for the best? I’m worried that by adding her on her own the bullying could be really bad!
Another option I have is that one of my girls isn’t laying as she is moulting so I could put her in there with the young one for a week or so then reintroduce them both?
Thanks in advance!

It is a hard question and there isn't one right answer. If it was me Id keep her separate but near the others till she is 20 weeks. She will be too vulnerable to go in on her own now. As long as she can see the others she wont be too lonely and I think the introduction will be smoother if she is more mature.
