Um.. hard to describe people.. I don't want to be rude. It would of been the ex-auctioneer.

I have an excess Speckled Sussex rooster, too many Aylesbury ducks and some older Mini bunnies that need to find new homes.

Hi friends.
I have not been to the other auctions in Melbourne. I was told that thta the other auction were larger than Mernder. If I was wrong Sorry. misss imformed.

The country sales are bigger. Euroa 530+ pens, Nathalia about the same, Bendigo has a larger number of pens, Albury 500 + and then there is the 1 sydney sales are also large.

I might be interested in some of your bunnies.
I definately really lwant an older mini male, preferably mini lop or netherland & 2 colour, but any boy would do.

I brought some (3) aylesbury ducks of you last year. They were absolutely stunning, way too good for Dandy and ending up on a plate. Are you thinking of going to Bacchus Marsh or Yarra Glen?

Yep its still on. Last auction for the year is this coming tuesday am- need to be penned up by at least 9.00am to get a pen I would say. Great place to get rid of any excess birds that you wouldnt sell/give to a fellow BYPer especially if you dont want to carry them over the Xmas break- first auction in 2010 is in early feb!

One very large auction in Melbourne is Footscray Poultry Club at the bacchus marsh showgrounds. They have nearly thousand pens. Next one is late February. Prices are very fair, and they don't take out any money..

Yeah, but bacchus marsh is so far out the other side of Melbourne, compared to Dandenong. It is hard to compare the two locations. Would take me an hour to get to Dandenong, & more than 3 hours (at least) to get to bacchus marsh. If all you want to do is sell of some spare chooks it hardly seems worth the trip.

Footsgray poultry club has a helmsman sale which is not a live call auction.
I was talking about a " live call auction".

I rang them at the Dandenong auctions and yes its on.

So I'll be taking in excess baby Minilop bunnies, some yr old laying hens that have gone broody, some X-bred chicks and some adult ducks.

Yep that time of the year to offload a few hungry mouths! Will be taking a quite a few black, blue and splash orpington chickens that are definitely NOT show quality to the auction. Last culls for the season.

Big crowd at dandenong today- literally hundreds of birds up for auction. As usual some very very nice muscovy ducks and big drakes plus loads of roosters and chicks/chickens. Only 2 ducklings though.

Prices not bad considering the number of birds penned? My cull pullets averaged about $10 each which is better than growing them on/waiting for the fox to get them/putting them in the compost heap! Also had loads of bunnies, a few guinea pigs and even 3 goats! Only problem is that my wife spent more than I 'earnt' -selling the chooks- at the plant auction located next door; at least with the plants I dont have to feed them over summer.

Also found out today that Dandenong Poultry auctions are keeping going over the January period and YES there is one next tuesday 29th December starting at 10.00am- birds to be penned by 9.30am.

Few less mouths to feed at my place tonight too.

Few examples:
Muscovy drake : $32
2 x 1wk old ducklings: $7
Light Sussex hen: $16
X-bred hens $16 and $15
X-bred chicks: av $1ea
Bunnies: $3 to $9

Not bad considering the number of entries.
Just a very long day..........

the muscovy drakes sound interesting,

when you say big do you mean mammoths ?

what sort of money do they sell for ?

do they allways have big mussie drakes there ?
