The Sydney Royal Schedule is up already

Sydney Royal Easter Show dates for the 2013 Show - 21 March 2013 - 3 April 2013.

http://www.sydneyroyal.com.au/Poultry.htm

Sad there is no Softfeather Heavy AOV section, looks like a quiet time this Easter :)

I think it is just an ommission when they produced the schedule, no biggy :)

I am sure Kerry will pick it up fairly quickly. This show is a great get together.

No Heavy breed or Light Breed AOV but there is "Any other breed or any other variety soft feather" listed at the end of the Light breeds. I'm interpreting this to mean exactly what it says, catering for both Heavy & Light breeds but it should be clarified. Personally, I'd like to see separate Heavy and Light AOV classes.

A very timely reminder. Early Easter, early Royal!

I was only walking around the yard today casting an eye over perspective Royal candidates without even thinking about when entries close. I'm starting to think some of my large fowl aren't going to be ready and am not even going to consider entering cocks or hens.

Its going to be a great show. bigger than last year. Heaps of school classes too.

Can not wait to catch up with many old friends.

heaps of turkeys again too I hope. 65 turkeys last year a show record i think.

I have entered 23 birds and eggs.

there are several victorian comming up as well.

Sydney royal has
top security on site, guards patroling, leg bands etc. Many other big shows could learn from kerrys team.

meat chicks went out today.

a fact a top victorian hatchery K L Thomas is putting cash into NSW schools as a hi line laying comp GREAT.

At the auction the first ever offering of pure white touluse are going up. lets see if we can break the $770.00 mark per bird achived for a muscovy duck.

See you all there

Entries have closed, numbers are on par with last year at approx 3500.Not a lot from QLD (floods I guess) but heaps more from Victoria especially W/f .This may have something to do with the changes to Melbourne royal or the result of a successful recruiting campaign conducted by Kerry Pearce from the RAS.
The schools comps have attracted roughly 70 odd schools stretching from Broken hill in the West ,Albury in the South to Tenterfield in the North of the state. There is also a raider coming from the Dandenongs in Victoria to be part of the action.Turkey numbers are strong again (who could forget last years display!).
On a sad note Warren Guy won't be with us this year. The much loved steward lost his battle with cancer and passed away last month.Warren was the person who greeted all and sundry with that great big smile and a friendly hand shake when you entered the Pavilion at Sydney Royal and made you feel welcome and that the long drive was worth the effort. Vale Warren Guy.

I herer that there will be alot of top birds from victoria this year. espically large and bantam soft feather.
I expect more victorians will cone now each year.
the good thing about sydney is
security is tight and birds are all leged ring for the show unlike other shows.

Braham, Albury High has 40 entries in the poultry section including the meat birds. Our chickens arrived on Wednesday and as you are aware it was a very hot day-38c I think. All the chicks survived much to the delight of the students but their weights were well down on previous years .Our range was 37-47g ,in previous years the range was over 50 so I don't know how we will do at this stage. The Hi line pullets are coming along nicely and should be right for the show.We also have a very nice line of 15 pure Black Leghorn(PBs) pullets that will take some stopping if we can get them up to the mark.We are starting to see a renewed interest in agriculture at the school and this has flowed over into the poultry club with a number of our students now showing poultry on a regular basis.
Really looking forward to the show and yes we will have a few cold ones in Warren's memory at Thursday nights presentation.
