There is also Victorian legislation coming along that could wipe out many dog breeders. Like you say these are good people, not puppy farmers or get rich schemers.
I thought it was more pandering to the animal rights/do-gooders/peta brigade. If new legislation bites, there won't be enough pure bred dog sales or exotic bird sales to produce any revenue for government.
I don't see how it will exempt back yard poultry (as distinct from the mass production industries of layers and meat birds). A bird is a bird. An egg is an egg too, and look how effectively a bit of legislation wiped out small free range egg sellers in more than one State (which again was more about the big producers protecting their turf than any "red herring" public health issues).
So yes, agree with signing the petition at least. Saying it only affects them not us isn't right - it will affect all of us if it goes through as stupidly as it has been set in train.
