I hatched this little one from posted eggs, i paid for pure barnevelders however i think it may not be it looks extremely different to my other barneys i have? This ones little face looks very eagle like and weird colours not very yellow legs maybe a barney cross? But she (i think) is very sweet so will keep her for just a backyard layer anyway. here are some pics!

I would say she is a she but not a pure Barnie.

Sorry, I agree with the others.
She will still be a pretty layer and who knows, she may even lay a nice dark egg.

I knew she wasn't going to be a good one even before she hatched though, the egg she came from was pure white :(. I even rang the guy i bought them from and commented on how white the barney eggs were and if he got them mixed up :S, he said that they were old hens and the colour of barney eggs fade.

Best part Barnie just poorly marked and what ever else she has in her would be the result of the light egg she came from . It is true about old hens and late in the season laying lighter egg shell colour BUT not WHITE .

Do you think it could be mixed with sussex? Cause the little feathering on her hackles looks similar, and she has the pale legs, the fella i bought them breeds New Hampshires, Light Sussex, Silkies, and "Barnevelders".

I'd reckon it's a cross form the new hampshire side of things myself, if those are the options. With a sussex, you'd find the yellow legs of the barne would be completely recessive to the white of the sussex - yours looks too yellow for me. I would also blame the reddish tone in it's back feathers there more likely on new hampshire not sussex.

Wow Lockit,

From the first pics I would never have picked him as a boy. I find with my Barnie boys or even the cross Barnie boys their comb shows up in the first 4 weeks and they feather very slowly. Yours really looked like a girl.

I guess with some you never really know until they crow or lay an egg.

Cheers
Shayne

I know I would have bet money that he was a she!! Such a strange comb on him? I wonder why its so small? I sent a photo to the place where i got his egg from. They sent back an email saying oh i guess you were right then and that there young roosters must have been working O_o why were there non pure bred barneys in with the "pure barney" hens if that's what you are selling them as. I bought 1 dozen pure bred barney eggs and 1 dozen Light sussex eggs. I ended up with like 6 barneys 6 new hampshires and 12 light sussex (not 1 dozen barney eggs) anyway the email ended with

"I tell you what if you buy another dozen off us I will sell them to you for half price + postage"

Ummmmmm......let me think...................................errrr neeerrr.
