Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Silver Dble Laced Barnevelders, looking for some help on what to look for in the cockerels as have a few hatched and trying to work out who to keep.

They're about 16weeks now. Have attached a few pics but have six altogether. Some don't have the brown/red in the saddle area (yet at least) and some have a quite blue tone to the green iridescent tail and wing areas.

Any help with breed standards or personal experience would be massively appreciated

Hi ChickenLittle and welcome. I breed Barnies but no experience with Silver Laced. Your birds have great leg colour.

I am by no means a expert on the subject, but with saying that what I have pick up is that if you are breeding silver you need the rooster to have no brown, gold or yellow in their feathers, I believe this is called leakage which is a no no. And a male needs to have a solid black front on him, so on that score the cockerels in the first and second photo are close to what you require.

Thanks Dapper Duck, I'd thought that re the red brown feathers too and good to know about the breast feathers. It a tricky thing to get all the elements right. Thanks again for the reply;)

I am relatively new to Barnies. I have a couple of silver DL hens and a normal DL rooster. Can anyone advise on the genetics of silver and how I would go about fixing the silver variety to breed true. Appreciate help and advice from the experienced.
