Hi there. Relatively new hen owners here. We’ve had 10 for a little of a year with no problems until now. We have one Easter Egger who hasn’t been herself the last week+. She seems lethargic, haven’t seen her eat (not even tasty mealworms), and has a poopy butt. Poop is runny, with green, white, and some yellow in it. Hasn’t laid in egg not long before getting sick (so maybe 2 weeks?). She drinks water but mostly wants to find a quiet place where she just stands or lays down for most of the day. Still a managed to fly up to her roost at night. Been administering vetRx poultry the last few days and I’m not sure there’s much improvement. Any thoughts or advice? Any help is appreciated.

Could be a few things, egg yolk peritonitis is a possibility, a bacterial infection caused by an egg that has broken inside her, is her abdomen hot and swollen? Has she been wormed lately?

If a trip to the vet is out of the question, yep I know how expensive that is and you have some unused antibiotics at home you could try her on a course for 7 days. You need amoxycillin or cephalexin, different brand names, just look on the packet. Dosage is 100mg per kg twice daily ie a 250mg tablet for a 2.5kg chook twice a day.
