Hi all im new here.
Im just getting back into chooks
I have a question for some smart chooky folk.

How easy is it to build an incubator just small one?
i had one when i was a kid made out of an old esky but over the years seems to have gone walkabout and the only sites i can find for instructions are USA and some of the things they use i have never heard of?? any help would be great.

Cheers Happyhenz :D

Hello happyhenz and welcome,
I cant guide you with your layers as I have no experience with them.
As far as incubators are concerned check out the incubation and rearing forum, I have built a incubator, second attempt and it has hatched 2 settings of eggs, little chicken has made a awesome incubator as well.
The best bit is that there are people like Denis and chookyinoz who are more than happy to answer questions.
If you want to go the foam esky route I have seen some ideas on the net, but you will need to modify them to suit what you can get over here.
Cheers
Trev

possibly these are the same links you were referring to happyhenz but here goes:
http://msucares.com/poultry/reproductions/poultry_make_incubator.html

http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/eggs/res20-incubator.html

denis is a whiz at helping to interpet all the names, and also if you were to print and take the plans into somewhere like dick smith, someone there should be able to help you.

mind you, websites like bellsouth and wape also have many of the components available too

http://www.bellsouth.com.au/

http://www.wapoultryequipment.com/WAPE/Catalogue.htm

both of these ship nationwide

goodluck and have fun :P  :P  :P  :P  :P

Give the foam a miss, go for wood.

Chookmadhubby built a great one, his first one was pretty ordinary he reckons but he has a post here somewhere with lot's of pictures etc. of his second one and it's great.

Little Chicken built one you can look at that and dream on like the rest of us do, it's brilliant.

Hi Again happyhenz,
The thread for my second incubator is here viewtopic.php?t=5948
The original unit was made from mdf and wasnt succesful as it was just bare mdf, the second one is melamine coated chipboard and any bare timber is sealed with clear varnish.
I stole some ideas from Mario (little chicken) as I have no hope of building one like his.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, I and everyone else will be happy to assist.
Regards
Trev
