Duckwing :)
Colour is of minimal importance in malays, so don't stress about not looking well marked. Looks like she has some good potential, will be interested to see how she fills out. 8)

Thanks Andy
To take your comments a bit further would it be the right idea to concentrate on type and conformation and just let the colour do it's own thing.
For instance I have found in this last batch of chicks that the pile cockerels are by far the biggest and they look the part to. So are they the birds I should look at keeping regardless of colour.
I do have a problem with lack of size in my malays but I'm pretty happy with their type and if I take colour out of the equation I think I would make faster head way in regards to the other aspects

I will be interested to hear your thoughts on this

Regards Andrew

It is a duckwing, but interesting pattern on some of the feathers, almost a double laced look.

I glad there is finally talk of Malay's.

I picked up my first pair at the sale in Bacchus Marsh Last weekend.

And I am totally entranced with them, It's like having my own pet dinosaurs. Are there any good websites or books, I'm having difficulty locating quality information. and the Aus standard is far to short.

nice looking bird Andrew, sorry to jump in on your thread

Cheers Raylene

George. It's probably the lacing that I was confused about as she does not look like my other duckwings.

Roogz. Not much info out there on malay's that I have found. There is a book call Oriental Gamefowl by Horst W Schmudde. I have not reed it but have herd that it is very good.

Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew,
A few more comments

Personally I would would think of colour LAST. The points for just the eye's alone (9) are worth more than the entire colour of the bird! (6)

Head and type is worth over 50%. Get the three curves, and a wide broad skull first. To get size into them, only breed from your big butch females as hens, with very strong heads. You can tell them as soon as they hatch. 8) but need to grow them out to see how they perform for height, type and eye colour.

I've got that book, it's interesting. The section on Malays refers to the European type which from what I've seen is quite different to the Australian type.
