I’m so sorry about your girl. What an awful discovery and a terribly sad loss.

Oh that's horrible :-(
At least you can console yourself with the fact that she had a lovely life up until then. Don't let it get you down, when you give them a life worth living in the open doing what they like to do, these things just happen from time to time.

Hi,
Just read and disappointed for you. I lost 5 chooks years ago when I let them out to free-range and now never let them out unless out with them as taken so easily. As you have had very little hatch I really feel for you. About two years ago, I had 21 chicks which I thought were to be my top chicks. Over a week I lost 4 chicks (eaten) and 11 were just found dead on four different occasions in the morning. Each time this happened it had been a rainy night but could never see a snake till the last morning. Possibly the snake came in out of the rain each time. I found a carpet snake but still not sure why I found the 11 just dead - possibly fright or squashed each other to get away from snake. So I was left with 6 which were not of course the best ones out of the 21 chicks. So see it doesn't matter whether you get good hatches things can go wrong still.

Thanks so much everyone - it is always a relief to share with people who know special chickens are and how much they get into your heart.

Really appreciate it :hiya:
