Hi all,
Sometime in April I started this thread seeking advice on what my Australorps could have and how it could be treated. I decided to treat it as scaley face mite. I used moxidectin Plus from Gecko Dan in Qld. I gave it to each chook by small syringe directly into their mouths with dosage being dependent on their weight. I followed this up with a repeat dose 10 days later. I withheld eating the eggs for 2 weeks after the second dose. At that stage I said I would post a follow up to say how this treatment went.
This is the update and it's good news. The treatment seems to be working very well. The scaley face ended up spreading to my blues in addition to the splashes, but interestingly in the coop next door, the hybrid Australorp/Hylines didn't get affected. Nevertheless I treated them all.
The white/grey faces have nearly totally disappeared. Even their laying, which was virtually non existent, is increasing. So, good news to share. Thanks again to all of you who shared your experience and thoughts with me. It was very much appreciated.
cheers,
Michael
