After doing some research online, I found out this isn't totally uncommon, but when I found this egg this morning, I was really surprised!
So I found one of my hens in the nesting box. Not sitting, like she normally does, but standing. She was panting and I could see she was straining to push something out (presumably an egg, of course). I was worried she had an egg stuck inside the duct, since she wasn't interested in her favourite snack (dried mealworms), so I went back to check on her every half hour.
Until I found this baby! As you can see by the ruler (in centimeters), the outer egg is enormous! I feel sorry for her she had to push this out. But she's doing great now and she's running around with her sister.

I thought I had seen it all after my other hen laid an egg with three yolks, but they keep on surprising me.

What's the weirdest you've ever seen with your eggs?

Wow! A first for me, to hear of a real live occurrence. I hope your chook counts that as a once in a lifetime never to be repeated experience!
