About a month ago, a wood-duck, part of a small group who seem to have taken up residence here, casually dropped an egg under my macadamia tree - no nest anywhere nearby. As I was about to set some eggs in my incubator, I thought it might be fun to include it in the batch.
After about 10 days, I thought I ought to actually check on what incubation conditions they actually need - turns out 35-37 degrees, not 40, and 28 days, not 21. I presumed I'd cooked it, but gave it a chance and an additional week - and it hatched.
Now what should I feed it? I have a bit of leeway as I know they must be OK for a day or two, as the mother has to get them out of the tree all together in nature.
I have starter crumble - will that be OK? Or, as they are really a goose, does it have to be some grass fines?
All advice appreciated.
Cheers
