My guess is a boy (but I'm an appalling silkie sexer!)

Combs are usually bigger on the boys even when younger but you can get a girl with a large comb also but not as common. I had one girl who had such a big comb that I was nearly convinced that she was a he...... until she started laying! Lol!

Silkies are diabolical to sex so most people just say you won't know until it either crows or lays! There's an eyeball game that boys play with one another but sometimes even a dominant female can be mistaken for a boy if she participates! Sigh! Usually, the one who started the eyeball game will more than likely be a boy. It's an amusing game to watch! Quite funny! Beak to beak, head bobbing up and down, staring one another out until one gives way. I've noticed that once the boys are removed, one never sees the girls playing the game. I can't keep boys as I live in the suburbs.

But I do have one theory that I'm trying to apply atm as I've noticed one thing about Silkies: their comb whilst they're still young. I've noticed that a male seems to have his comb higher on his head like practically finishes above the eyes whereas the females usually finishes towards the front of the eyes. Just a theory atm but then again for all I know it might just be the line.

Not a definite answer, I know, but at least a few things to look for. Good luck! And, please, let us know as it will help others in trying to sex their Silkies too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed info, really appreciate it. It's coming to 16 weeks and 'she' still barely has a comb, will post more pics very soon!

Hi guys, here's my silkie bantam at 16 weeks, fur has grown longer, comb size still the same as far as I can tell. Still unsure if it's a hen or roo.
