Thank you, I've just turned the batch 2 eggs again and will see about turning them tonight if the others aren't moving etc.

I've also tied an offcut of gutter guard to the top of the barnies' basket to keep them penned in once they hatch, though the basket had a decent height and unlikely they would be able to climb out so early on in their life!

I'll post up the pics once hatching is done.

Turned the 2nd batch at 9pm. First pip of 1st batch noticed at 11pm.

Could swear I heard a peep whilst turning the 2nd batch

Yup, leaving them now till they are all out.

Apparently one hatched around 930am and nothing since though another is closer along. Tonight, around 7pm is 21days exactly from when they went into the incubator.

4 out of 6 hatched. 1 more pipped. 1 has not pipped or has been knocked so I cannot see the pip.

5/6 now.

Hoping them will be fine to wait till tomorrow arvo. If not I'll put em into brooder around 6am tomorrow

Still just the 5.

How long should I leave the others in there? This afternoon will be approx 30hrs since the first hatch, I know they can go upto 3 days without food and water but don't wish to risk them.

Checked them after 3:15pm, no pips on the other egg.

Made the call, moved chicks to brooder, one is much weaker looking, thought it had splayed legs but appears to have come good.

I quickly candled the final egg and it was obviously dead, over half the egg was clear and no movement at all. I made the call to discard it, turn the batch 2 eggs and get the incubator setup for them. Cracked open the final egg from batch #1 and yes, confirmed dead in shell .

Batch 2 are due 23rd november, so I shall remove the water from the incubator trays to get it ready for them.

You did the right thing by taking them out. I like to remove them as soon as they’re fluffed up.

Candled batch 2 tonight. Discarded 3 eggs, 1 x lavender leghorn, 2 x possible lakenvelder.

Leaves 18 going ahead with 2 probably quitters..
I make the going ahead to be 5 x Buff Laced Polish, 4 x lakenvelder, 3 x lavender leghorn and 6 x vorwerk.

Batch #1 are doing fine. I need to get some more non slip matting and then some wire to separate the two batches next Friday.

I'll grab some happy snaps this weekend, they really are a pretty bunch.. Probably roosters lol

So my Wyandotte has gone broody. I considered sneaking either batch 1 or 2 under her but then decided to just set her up on a dozen remaining eggs I had stored in the laundry.. They may be up to a month old so who knows what will eventuate.. Hopefully not the full dozen or I'll be overrun!

Batch 2 going into lockdown. 2x vorwerk discarded and 1 more looks doubtful .

16 left in this batch from the original 26.

Hope this final stage goes well.
