Hi, we have a broody chicken sitting on eggs that haven't hatched so are looking for day old chicks for her to mother. I have found some 1 week old chicks that are available and wonder if these are too old and would like advice from the brains trust. We have always successfully hatched in the past so this is our first time in this situation.

Thanks,
Jules

I think it will be OK. They would still look like baby chicks. Introduce them at night, so it seems as though by magic, Santa came bringing babies.

I had a similar problem with a stubborn broody last year. I introduced 10 day olds. It was fine.

Have a brooder set up just in case it fails, but i'm betting the instinct to raise young will over power any ability to discern their ages.

If you go ahead, let us know what happens.
