Hi we have now solved the dog killing the chickens debacle but I live in north QLD and we are in the midst of a terrible heat wave...we had 3 new pullets but we have lost two of them - one on Tuesday and one yesterday...we have a fan and a mist system in place and a canopy over our coop and run and our remaining chicken has fared pretty well through 4x 40plus degree days in a row.
BUT she is alone...what do we do here? We aren’t super keen to get any more pullets as they seem very fragile for our climate at this time of Year.
Would we be best to leave Peri-Peri on her own or introduce another POL hen or two??
Our local rural store is getting some POL the same breed as Peri in about 2weeks and Peri will be 10weekd by then?
Would it be ok or mean to just keep her on her own??

welcome!

chickens are flock animals, and need other chickens to be happy. even if you didn't want to get more chickens yuo have noticed that they need company, and yes it would be mean to keep her by herself.

if you can it would be better to get her some more companions closer to her age, as 8 weeks old is quite young.

good luck with your decision.
