Just wanted to share a story and hopefully get some advice.

This evening when thing some recycling out to the bin, I heard a chirping that sounded like a bird in distress. Thinking that perhaps a chic had fallen out of its nest I had a look around and to my surprise I found a chick, looks to be less that a week old.

This is surprising as while I have had chooks for around 10 years I haven’t had a rooster for almost a year now (due to neighbours complaining about noise). So I have no Idea where it might have come and while it seems unlikely it may have been dumped there. I have set up a brooder that I had from when I last hatched some eggs but as this was a surprise, I don’t have any grower crumble at the only chook food I have is Peckish performance layer mix. I have ground some up in a blender until it is about the consistency of grower crumble. Will this suffice until I can get some grower crumble?

Well, what a big surprise!

Yes, the ground up layer mix will be fine till you can get your hands on some chick starter.

Might be worth seeing if you can get a couple of companions of the same age too.

Well done on the chick rescue :)

Thanks, I managed to get some chick starter today. the chick seems healthy and happy enough.
Still no Idea where it may have come from. We have looked around just in case there may be others.

Ill have to have a lookout for someone nearby with a couple of chicks for sale.
